Scroll down and try the VERTICAL design guide. See how the colours of the different planting concepts interact with the various facade cladding types and colours.

VERTICAL supports a wide range of perennials, grasses, and small shrubs, offering great creative freedom when designing the aesthetic expression. The five planting concepts have been selected and tested in collaboration with landscape architects and specialised gardeners, with particular focus on identifying robust and healthy species suitable for aesthetically pleasing and seasonally varied plantings.

Plantekoncept

Summer Bloom

A rich and lush planting composition that flourishes during the warm months and creates a strong visual impact. Predominantly perennials with a few ornamental grasses. The summer and winter periods contrast with one another, as the planting recedes into dormancy during winter, revealing the selected front material.

Biodiversity Insect

Flora and fauna go hand in hand in this planting composition. Flowering and berry-producing plant species together provide a long flowering season, ensuring food sources for insects and berries for birds. Small shrubs create natural nesting opportunities for songbirds. Biodiversity can further be supported with habitat features such as bird nest boxes, insect hotels, bat boxes, and similar elements.

Grassland Nature

A light and airy planting composition with grasses and perennials. The defining light grasses with swaying flower heads move in the wind, creating a natural and vibrant expression. A few flowers appear during the summer months, while the seed heads remain as winter structure.

Forrest Edge

Extra green and lush, featuring succulent and visually striking foliage. The planting composition focuses on structural leaf forms that draw the eye and create a calm expression. Ferns, large-leaved perennials, and small shrubs provide the characteristic look.

Evergreen City

A high proportion of evergreen perennials, grasses, and small shrubs, creating a lush green appearance throughout the year. Simple flowering and berry production add seasonal interest. Evergreen shrubs provide shelter and nesting opportunities for songbirds. The planting composition only minimally exposes the front materials during winter.

Planting concept

VERTICAL supports a wide variety of perennials, grasses, and small shrubs, providing extensive design freedom in the aesthetic expression. The five planting concepts serve as the starting point for discussing the desired look when you contact our advisory team. The planting design can be tailored to specific goals — for example, flowering species throughout the season to support pollinating insects, combined with evergreens that help sustain urban birdlife.

During the planning phase, our landscape team adapts the selected plant composition to the project’s local conditions and light environment.

The facade system is based on natural materials specifically composed to support plant growth. Rainwater from the roof can be added to the system’s irrigation solution, allowing VERTICAL to recreate the same conditions plants have in nature — just in a vertical garden.

The integrated system contributes, through its plant growth, to dampening urban noise and cleaning the air of dust and pollutants, while the plants also absorb CO₂ directly from the air. At the same time, it adds a green and living dimension to the streetscape, enhancing well-being and quality of life for the community’s residents.

Summer bloom

A flower-rich and lush plant composition that thrives during the warm months and creates visual impact. Primarily perennials with a few grasses. The summer and winter periods stand in contrast, as the planting will retreat into a dormant winter state and expose the front material.

Grassland

A light and airy plant composition featuring grasses and perennials. The characteristic, delicate grasses with swaying seed heads move with the wind, creating a natural and vibrant expression. Occasional flowers appear during the summer months, and the seed heads remain as winter structure.

Evergreen

A high proportion of evergreen perennials, grasses, and small shrubs. Lush and green all year round. Occasional flowering and berry formation. The evergreen shrubs provide shelter and opportunities for songbirds to nest. The plant composition exposes the front materials only minimally during winter.

Forest edge

This plant concept is especially green and lush — characterized by vibrant, visually prominent foliage. The composition focuses on structure-forming leaf shapes that create a calm and cohesive expression. Ferns, large-leaved perennials, and small shrubs define the look.

Biodiversity

Flora and fauna go hand in hand in this plant composition. Flowering and berry-producing species together create a long blooming period, providing food sources for insects and berries for birds. Small shrubs offer natural nesting opportunities for songbirds. Biodiversity can be further supported with biodiversity elements such as nesting boxes, insect hotels, bat boxes, and more.

Front materials

VERTICAL offers a wide range of ventilated facades and an exciting selection of front materials. The front material can be chosen so that the facade material remains consistent across the entire building, both with and without planting.

There are many possibilities, providing great design freedom to create the exact expression desired for the green facade. The front material also enables the green facade to be integrated into a building that uses the same facade type. The result is an integrated green facade that

becomes a natural and harmonious part of the overall building design. The extensive palette of materials is truly unique in combination with the planting concepts. During the winter months, the beautiful slate or brick type becomes more prominent as the perennials adorning the facade retreat for the season — only to be covered again by new shoots emerging in spring. In other words, VERTICAL offers a beautiful symbiosis between nature and architecture.

Choose from a wide range of standard Inline front materials, or select the project-specific brick-on-tile solution, produced exclusively for VERTICAL.
